WHAT IS THE ROCK JESUS SPOKE OF?

"But what about you?," He asked. "Who do you say I am?" Simon Peter answered,
"You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon
son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but my Father in heaven. And I
tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell
will not overcome it." - Matthew 16:15-18
Someone who stopped by here by the name of Dave responded that the "rock" Jesus
referred to was the fact that Peter, heard God for himself. I couldn't agree more. This
"rock" is the foundation of hearing and knowing truth; the rock from which to build your
house (life) upon.
"He is like a man building a house, who dug deep (are you digging deep?) and laid the
foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against
that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock." - Luke 6:48
I would like to point out that the gates of hell shall not prevail against this rock, Jesus
said. The word mis-translated as hell in this passage is the Greek word hades which
simply means the "state of the dead," or a "grave." When Jesus encountered people
who were considered by others as being dead, he said that they were only "sleeping." I
believe when we follow God from within ourselves and hear His words of truth, that it is
then we awaken and are no longer asleep or "dead" to the truth.
Hell is a state of mind. We have passed from death to life by listening to the spirit of
truth within, instead of following the outward, emotional roller coaster, powered by the
physical world which seems so real, but in truth is illusion.
"...Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light."
