If you look at our guestbook, you will see Dave responded that the "rock" Jesus spoke about was the fact that Peter, "heard God for himself." I couldn't agree more. This "rock" is the foundation of hearing and knowing truth; the rock from which to build your house upon.
"He is like a man building a house, who dug deep (are you digging deep?) and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock." -Luke 6:48
I would like to point out that the gates of hell shall not prevail against this rock, Jesus said. The word translated "hell" is Hades which simply means the "state of the dead" or the "grave." When Jesus encountered people who were considered "dead," he said that they were only "sleeping." I believe when we follow God from within ourselves and hear His words of truth, that it is then we awaken and are no longer asleep or "dead" to the truth. Hell is a state of mind. We have passed from death to life by listening to the spirit of truth within, instead of following the outward emotional rollercoaster, powered by the physical illusion.
